GenerAsians was a welcome break from Wellesley classes and an opportunity to redirect my time and effort into creating a tangible product. I joined GA my first year after visiting their table at Spring Open Campus. Coming from an NJ county with a large East Asian community, I realized I took for granted being in a space where Asian American lifestyle was commonplace. GA was not only a space where I could meet students who understood the pain of Korean SAT prep schools, but also expand my limited view of the Asian American experience. I really enjoyed helping our writers get out their stories by complementing their words with full-color spreads, and combining the work of the layout team into a beautiful publication. I still have my GA copies on my bookshelf for when I need some design inspiration.
I’m currently doing an NYC coding bootcamp (from my home in NJ because of the pandemic) to make myself a more competitive candidate for software engineering roles, but my goal is to work at a media company and continue to help creators reach their audience.
