How to Join Staff

At GenerAsians, we have three main staff positions: Staff Writer, Content Editor, and Layout Editor.

Staff Writer

Our staff writers carry the backbone of the magazine because they write almost all of our articles! Each staff writer is assigned to write three articles per semester (one 500-1000 word piece, one 300-500 word piece, and one short blurb). The articles can cover any topic of the writer’s choosing related to Asian/Asian American news/culture. We pair each writer with a content editor who gives them with feedback and a layout editor who designs the pages for their articles. All staff writers are required to attend our two writing workshops during the semester.

Content Editor

We pair each content editor with a staff writer to edit their articles and give them feedback on content, cohesion, grammar, and organization. All content editors are also required to attend both writing workshops.

Layout Editor

The layout editors design the pages of our lovely magazine! We pair each layout editor with one or two staff writers to select the images and formats for their article pages; the writers and layout editors work collaboratively, using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. The Head Layout Editor also leads mandatory layout workshops to cover the essentials of both programs.

How to apply:

Interested in joining GA’s staff?  Then please visit our GenerAsians WEngage page and click “Join” or follow us on Facebook or Instagram (@wellesley_generasians) to receive our latest notifications.  We accept staff applications at the beginning of every semester so keep an eye out for those application deadlines and fill out our quick application for one of the three positions!  No prior experience in journalism or magazines is necessary; we welcome everyone to GA!

Want to submit content to GA without joining staff?

No problem!  Anyone can submit articles, poetry, photograph, or other artwork to GA without joining staff. We collect outside submissions for the first half of the semester-just join our WEngage page or follow us on social media to keep an eye out for that deadline!  Even if you are a content or layout editor, you can still submit an article, and vice versa, and the same goes for GA E-board members as well.  We welcome all artistic and written pieces!
